The Wait is not Over

So now we know that Obama has picked hometown favorite Arne Duncan for Secretary of Education. I will confess I don’t know enough about him to really comment as yet. He was part of a panel at a recent conference I attended and I took the opportunity to offer to shine his shoes in return for a few million for ABCTE. Unlike Governor Rod, Mr. Duncan was not for sale.
Note that most of those last 2 sentences was made up.

However, for me the wait continues. I really want to see who will be appointed as the various under and deputy secretaries. Will Linda Darling-Hammond get the nod?  Most likely, she will end up somewhere prominent which keeps many an education reformer up at night. The rumors will, no doubt, continue to circulate on who will get to run Title II and the most likely to be renamed Office of Innovation and Improvement (from which ABCTE was originally funded).

  1. Funny, I was just about to send you a message about this!

    What’s wrong with L.D-H.?

  2. In a nutshell, she is generally hostile to most education reforms that do not involve maintaining and/or strengthening the status quo. She may advocate a change here or a change there, but you can generally predict that these changes would involve spending more on this program or that program, but generally keeping things the same with public schools.
