The NYT is considering charging a monthly fee for access to their content online. They tried this once before with the Times Select. I was a member back then since I was an apostle of Thomas Friedman, a big fan of David Brooks and enjoyed reading Paul Krugman’s constant doom forecasts. These three are not so important to me anymore so there is no way I would pay for NYT content. I will miss Ross Douthat’s column, but, at this time, he alone is not worth $5 a month to me. If they go down this road, it will be interesting to see if it just delays the inevitable or somehow prolongs the life of the Gray Lady in her current form.
