Joanne Jacobs has a summary of the saga of Michelle Kerr. She recently earned her M.Ed. from Stanford “despite threats to declare her “unsuited” for teaching.” Stanford tried to revoke her admission for speaking out (in class and via her blog). Happily, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education came to her aid.
This is not the first time I have read an account like this. The scary thing is that, by some accounts, Stanford and Teacher’s College are considered in the top 5 of education schools. I just have to hope that these types of incidents are outliers and that colleges of education, on the whole, are moving more toward the model put in place in Louisiana.
