This is old news right about now, but I am trying to catch up on a few topics I had stored away for a moment when I have some free blogging time. This article appeared in early July. It details Michelle Rhee following through on her promise, in the absence of a new agreement with the local teacher’s union, to put teachers on 90-day (school days) plans. About 80 tenured teachers lost their positions this summer due to those. This is huge for a large, urban school system. There were many others that received pink slips for various bureaucratic reasons, but the 80 was impressive. Hopefully, the mechanism they have in place will actually lead to more talented individuals suiting up in new classrooms in a few weeks.
