Not sure if this would qualify as “innovation”, but I think it would be worth the effort to pursue this in one or two school districts to see what happens. This post talks about the impressive success at schools run by the Department of Defense. It talks about the demographic similarities between these schools and urban districts. However, one obvious issue involves the differences in who is waiting at home at night to make sure a child goes to class, does his homework, or is punished for misbehaving. Nevertheless, I would be interested to see what comes of such a partnership.
