R.I.P Norman Borlaug

I’ve watched Facebook light up tonight with many a quote from Dirty Dancing and kind words for Patrick Swayze. I enjoyed his movies as well. I would rather see some quotes from Road House or Red Dawn (Jennifer Grey was also involved), but you can’t have everything.

The world lost someone else today though. Norman Borlaug received the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize (among other awards) for feeding the world–literally. He is credited with feeding approximately 1 billion people. I have no idea how such things are estimated, but his agricultural advances helped prevent Paul Ehrlich’s Malthusian population bomb from detonating.

What I linked to above is minimal. A quick search will reveal much more about one of the most important men of the 20th century. It’s worth the few minutes of your time.
